3 Reasons Why "The One" Doesn't Exist

3 Reasons Why “The One” Doesn’t Exist

I’ll say it again for the folks in the back:

“THE ONE” DOESN’T EXIST

I’m gonna say it one more time for the woman who read this and felt offended:

“THE ONE” [still] DOES NOT EXIST

Thanks for coming to my TedTalk

WHEW!

You and your favorite Christian blogger EXHAUST me!  Not only is the idea impractical it’s unBiblical.

[YEAH I SAID IT!]

Don’t believe me? Here’s the proof:

1.      He who finds a wife finds a good thing (Proverbs 18:22)

“A WIFE” not THE wife. Wanna know the Hebrew translation of a wife? It’s literally “woman, wife, female”.

The only requirement is that the woman be a good one. Now “good” can be subjective but that is why we rely on the Holy Spirit to guide us. Seeing as God created everyone I’m pretty sure He knows who’s good or who’s not. I honestly believe it’s more about purposeful compatibility, practically, and all-around maturity than whatever deep pseudo-spiritual thing we have made it.

2.      Ruth had two husbands in her lifetime

Since y’all love Ruth so much let’s talk about her. I’m sure her first husband was a great man otherwise she would’ve pulled an Orpah and dipped once he died. Instead, she clung to her mother-in-law (which is probably highly abnormal from the perspective of many married women lol) vowing to keep her commitment to the family. We get so caught up in Boaz we forget that she was actually a married woman before she met him! Had her husband not died she would’ve never met Boaz and there’d be no story. With the idea of “The One” does this mean that her first husband wasn’t it? Or maybe Boaz wasn’t the one…? But there was two...hmmm whether through death or divorce would God withhold or shrug his shoulders because the one came and went? Probably not because He’s a good Father….unless....the one doesn’t exist.

3.      Cultural allowances and customs dictated how wives were chosen

Men who were counted as righteous and who are even pillars of the faith had MULTIPLE wives due to the customs of their day.  Men such as Abraham, Jacob, Solomon, and David were near to God’s heart and counted as righteous, and yet they had multiple wives.  True enough, cultural practices does not equal God’s will, however if who you married was the deep philosophical thing we made it then they would be fully hindered in doing the work of the Kingdom because of who they married.  God used these men and women despite who their spouses were or how many they had. (Granted I am aware Sarah was highlighted and was used strategically to put forth the plans of God, however my point still remains.)

Look, am I saying that who you marry doesn’t matter? NO!!! Who you marry will affect generations and alter your destiny for better or worse. So, I am not saying marry any ol’ body. However, the ideology that one person is destined for another just simply is not true.  Of course, there are people in the world who are better suitors for you than others. There are definite bad, good, and great choices but they’re exactly that, CHOICES; not requirements. I doubt God cares if you ever get married, however if you choose and desire to, He will guide you towards a better mate. But “the one” doesn’t exist, fam.

Let it go and be free from the idea that you’ll miss the perfect spouse by accident.
